DeFuniak Springs Florida

Were 143 miles NW of Carabelle near US 10 in DeFuniak Springs.  Tuesday we head to Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park down by the coast just East of Destin.  Were on this beautiful lake and enjoying 5 days in the area mostly hanging at our camp, they have a workout room, hot tub, pool, the lake and well the hot tub is what attracted us so were enjoying it everyday.

Nice dock on the lake.

Nice park to walk around.

Now the story of DeFuniak, this totally round lake/spring is in  downtown.  You can walk all around the lake by the shore and up near the road on sidewalks.   The lake is surrounded by a road lined with large historical homes.  They are private dwellings.  We visited a little museum and were told many residents are authors, well what an inspiration to live around something so beautiful.

We walked the whole circle around the lake every tree and shrub had christmas lights so it must have been amazing with more than 6 million lights adorning the park for Christmas.

Most houses had large porches on two sides and many on both levels.

It's like a scene from a fairy tale.

Chautauqua Hall of the Brotherhood which was located within the park.  A private society for those in the arts?  Really didn't get a good understanding of the brotherhood.
They built and used the hall from 1885-1927.  This was definetly a little gem of a town along US 10.

Were heading back down on the gulf coast then having an oil change before heading into Alabama to stop and tour the USS Alabama aircraft carrier.  After we head into Mississippi to Natchez to tour Antebellum homes, so excited about that.
